Naveed Khan
Major Teams: Gulberg
Gymkhana, Washington University, Nashville Cricket Club.
Right Hand Bat, Right Arm Medium
Naveed Khan along with others started this club a few years ago.
He is the President and captain of the club. He is known for bowling
medium-pace cutters off just six paces that many batsmen find impossible
to score from. His performance against Nashville Occasionals Cricket
Club in the 2004 season with the figures of 3 for 24 when he single
handedly ripped the heart out of the middle order was his best performance
to date. He’s got the potential of being a regular bowler
in the side and the stats to back the claim. But he seemed to have
under utilized himself in 2004. Out in the field he is one of the
safest hands and can brag about not dropping a single catch in the
2004 season.
Mohammed
Qandeel
Nashville Cricket Club.
Right Hand Bat, Slow Right Arm
Orthodox
Qandeel, or Candy as he is more popularly known amongst his teammates,
is one of the finest cricketers in the Club. He has the second highest
total in the club for the 2004 season and top scored a magnificent
unbeaten 70 against German Town Cricket Club. He plays shots all
around the ground and is especially strong off his legs, and unleashes
ferocious pulls and lofted drives. His most memorable innings came
during the 2003 NOCC Trophy when he spearheaded the assault on Nashville
Occasionals by hitting towering sixes managed to get 58 runs in
the last 4 overs of the innings. His performance won him the batsman
of the year award in 2003. He is lethal against any attack, although
this aggression can be his undoing.
Hunain
Shaikh
Major Teams: Flushing Cricket Club, International Cricket
Club, Dayton Cricket Club, Nashville Cricket Club.
Right Hand Bat, Right Arm Leg Break, Wicketkeeper
While his heavy bat sends the ball arcing to all parts of the field,
he is introspective by nature. A gentle giant if you will. Generally
a placid and undemonstrative man, Hunain nailed down the crucial
No. 3 position in the Nashville Cricket Club batting order after
a number of players were tried and discarded. He is a strong man
with powerful shoulders and a deep chest and he possesses a wide
array of attacking strokes. To add to all this, he is a fine slip
fielder and a stand by wicketkeeper. Humain was NCC’s great
big hope, until his 2004 season was cut short by a cruel back injury
during the match with NOCC. He returned towards the end of the season
and played in the 2004 Australian Festival Cricket Championship.
