NCC Community Service & Cultural News:

[2003 News]

06/03/2004 I Scream You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream! Approximately 90 preschoolers and parents participated in NCC's June community service project "I Is for Ice Cream" which was co-sponsored with Metro Parks Krayon Kids at the Bellevue Community Center. This community service project encourages parent child enrichment time, and the development of young childrens' social, academic and motor skills. During the recent session on June 3rd, children had time to play in the gym with balls, scooters, parachute, etc. They then moved on to circle time where they practiced saying the pledge of allegience and counted together with ice cream flashcards. Then came arts and crafts time where they fingerpainted an I, made a handprint Fathers Day card, and an ice cream cone magent. Some of the kids started the homeade ice cream and throughout the session others took turns adding ice and salt. While waiting for the ice cream to finish, everyone went outside to throw water baloons at their favorite flavor of ice cream displayed with fun foam as a target. The session ended with everyone enjoying ice cream sundaes which brought lots of smiles. This program is offered free to children five and under in the Nashville community. A parent or primary caregive must remain with child at all times while at the center. During the summer sessions, older siblings are welcome to attend as well. Next month will be "Let's Celebrate America" on July 1 from 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Children are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue because we will be having a patriotic preschool parade that day in addition to other activities. Then on August 5 NCC will co sponsor a fun filled session of preschool summer olympic games. The kids will have races, decorate their own medals and other fun theme related activities. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this community service program, please contact Jill Khan at 646-2241.
