June 27' 2004: NCC played a cricket match
with German Town Cricket Club at Edwin Warner Park.
NCC won the toss and elected to bat. Opening
pair of Dawood and Rakesh batted very well with sound start. Rakesh
scored fifty with six fours. After hitting a forceful four, Hunain
injured his back and had to leave the field. The Qandil picked up,
playing sensibly started with singles and twos. He was in a zone,
and finished the inning at 70 not out that included seven fours
and a six. Amer provided good support with 19 runs and Ishfaq with
7 not out. There were 48 extras…..NCC ended up with 209 for
3 in 30 overs.
GTCC had a shaky start when Tariq got the
opener Irfan to a catch at mid off by Patel. The wickets fell at
regular interval. The middle order batted quite well, when Majid
was on crease, at one time it looked that GTCC might be able to
get to the target. But when Rakesh had Majid LBW the hopes of a
spectacular win faded. Umer scored a gutsy 34, but the rest could
to keep up with high run rate. GTCC was all out at 184 in 29.1 overs.
Tariq had 3 wickets for 24 runs in 5.2 overs,
Ishfaq 1 for 13 in 6 overs, Patel no wicket – 19 runs in two
overs, Alam 2 for 12 in three overs, Adil 2 for 17 in 5 overs, Rakesh
one for 33 in 6 overs, Ramesh one for 10 in 2 overs. We gave 41
extras…the highest score…shame shame
